RCR Stack

Stackable glasses are almost always thick, plain, and unattractive. That’s because stackability requires a slightly tapered wall and a thicker rim, and that combination is rarely executed beautifully. So anyone looking to save space usually has to compromise on how the glass looks on the table.

RCR’s Stack solves that with crystal glass instead of ordinary glass. The range consists of a 32 cl tumbler and a 39 cl highball glass, both shaped to nest inside each other without getting stuck, and both made from Luxion.

What to look for in stackable glasses

With stackable glasses there are two things to weigh up: how much space you gain and whether they come apart again. The 32 cl tumbler is the low shape you can store in towers of six or eight, handy for small kitchens, boats, holiday homes and staff canteens. The 39 cl long drink glass stacks up higher but saves proportionally more, because a tall glass otherwise eats up a lot of shelf. Also look at the quantity: both come in sixes, which gives you a stack you can move with one hand. More variants can be found under stackable glasses and the straight models under long drink glasses.

How to use a stacked tower

The low tumbler is the shape for water with a meal and for spirits on ice. The tall glass is the shape for everything with bubbles, from cola to tonic. A cuba libre is the classic example: fill the glass with ice, add rum, top it with cola and squeeze a lime wedge before dropping it in. If you serve on a terrace or by a pool, keep a stacked tower within reach and take from the top, so you never touch the rest.

Stuck glasses and the dishwasher

Never pick up a stacked tower by the top glass, because you are then pulling on the rim of the one below. If two glasses do get stuck, stand the lower one in lukewarm water and fill the upper one with cold water; the difference in expansion releases them. They are dishwasher safe and Luxion stays clear through it, as long as the glasses do not touch each other.

Looking further

If you are fitting out a bar, restaurant or canteen, the page with hospitality glasses is the logical next stop. If you want low glasses that do not need to stack, look at the tumbler glasses, where the heavier models are. For the rest of this brand's range there is RCR. If you often pour alcohol-free, the mocktails page has recipes that fit these two sizes exactly.
