Onis Tarq

The 26 cl glass is for soft drinks, juice, and beer by the flute. The 35 cl is the all-rounder that can hold water with ice and is exactly the right size for a cocktail on ice. The long drink glass of 34.5 cl has almost the same capacity but is narrower and taller, which keeps the bubbles in tonic or cola longer. All three are stackable glasses. If it comes down to quantity, count by twelve: that is about how many fit in a dishwasher rack.

In the tall 34.5 cl glass, a gin and tonic comes into its own, with ice filled to the rim before any liquid goes in. The same applies to a Cuba Libre: ice first, then rum, then cola poured down the side, and only at the very end a slice of lime. In the 35 cl tumbler, use one large cube instead of ice cubes, as it melts more slowly and keeps the ratio intact.

Stackable glass has one well-known nuisance: two glasses that suck tight inside each other. With Tarq that rarely happens because the wall tapers, but with three or more glasses on top of each other it can still occur. In that case, stand the bottom glass in lukewarm water and fill the top one with cold water. Beyond that, the range is made for daily dishwasher use, with a tempered rim that stands up to knocks in the basket.

Other series from the same brand can be found at Onis, where you’ll find not only the barware but also the wine glasses and coupes. If you compare them by shape, Tarq falls between the tumbler glasses and the highball glasses, alongside series from other manufacturers. And if glasses become cloudy inside after a busy season, the glass brushes remove residue that a dishwasher can’t reach.
