L.S.A. Mia

Machine-pressed glasses are all identical. With mouth-blown glass, that is precisely not the case: no two pieces are exactly the same in wall thickness, and you can see this in the way the light passes through them. L.S.A. Mia is made this way, with a slightly irregular bowl and a somewhat rustic base that gives the glass more character on the table than a sleek tumbler.

The collection consists of four sizes: a 41 cl tumbler and a 25 cl tumbler, both sold in sets of four; a 35 cl highball glass, sold in sets of four; and a substantial 75 cl beer glass, sold in sets of two.

How to choose within the Mia series

The two tumblers are not variations on one theme. The 25 cl is a water glass that sits beside the plate without filling the table, while the 41 cl tumbler leaves room for large ice cubes and therefore works better for mixed drinks. The 35 cl longdrink glass sits between the two in height and is the narrowest shape in the series. The 75 cl beer glass stands out: it is deliberately a sharing size that takes a whole bottle of craft beer, or that two of you can pour out over smaller glasses.

How to pour from mouth-blown glass

With mouth-blown glass it pays to pour calmly. The wall is not equally thick everywhere, so the liquid runs along the rim a little differently than with a pressed glass. For beer that means: tilt the glass, straighten it halfway, and keep the last of the bottle back if there is yeast in it. A gin and tonic is at its best in the 41 cl tumbler, with ice past the halfway point. For a dark and stormy you pour the rum in last over the ginger beer, so that a dark layer floats on top.

Mouth-blown glass and its care

Mouth-blown glass is thinner and less uniform than machine-made glass, which makes it more sensitive to sudden differences in temperature. So do not put a glass that has just come out of the dishwasher straight under the cold tap. Check on the product page whether the model in question is dishwasher safe; if in doubt, washing by hand in lukewarm water and drying immediately is the safest route. Store the glasses separately and do not stack them.

Looking further within the range

If you want to see what else the brand makes, the full range from L.S.A. is gathered in one place, from carafes to bar glasses. If the 75 cl beer glass is what drew you in, also have a look at the craft beer glasses for tulip and goblet shapes that hold the aroma better. And if you are building a bar around these glasses, that calls for equipment: the bar tools page shows what you need for each technique.
