L.S.A. Bar

L.S.A.’s Bar series is designed for those moments when you’re standing behind your own bar at home. It isn’t a series where everything is the same: it includes a 27.5 cl cocktail glass and a 40 cl beer glass—two glasses that rarely come in the same box but do end up on the table on the same evening.

The cocktail glass is a generous coupe sold in sets of two, while the beer glasses come in sets of four. That ratio reflects how people drink. Cocktails are made in small quantities and with care; beer is poured for the whole table at once.

A 27.5 cl coupe and a 40 cl beer glass

With a cocktail glass, pay attention to the opening. At 27.5 cl this is a generous coupe, roomier than the classic martini glasses of around 15 cl, which makes it suitable for cocktails with plenty of ice or a foam layer. If what you want is a small glass that empties in one go, this size is too big. The 40 cl beer glass is deliberately roomy, because you pour 33 cl into it and keep space above that for the head. Also consider how many you need, since two cocktail glasses rarely cover a whole evening. The wider range of cocktail glasses offers more choice in size.

How to pour and chill

Chill the cocktail glass before you pour, for instance by filling it with ice and water for a few minutes and tipping that out just before serving. Stir or shake in a separate tin and only then strain into the glass, so no ice shards end up in it. A dry martini shows at its best this way, and a cosmopolitan benefits from a cold glass too. Pour beer into the tilted glass and bring it upright at the end, which builds a firm head.

Thin-walled glass and the dishwasher

Both glasses are thin-walled, which is pleasant to drink from but calls for care. Wash them apart from pans and cutlery, and load them into the dishwasher so that they touch nothing. A coupe with a wide opening is vulnerable at the rim, so pick the glass up by the stem or the base and never by the top. Rinse beer glasses free of any grease, because grease is the main reason a head collapses.

Looking further within cocktail glasses

The rest of this brand's range is listed under L.S.A.. If you are looking for more beer glasses in different shapes, from tulip to goblet, take a look at the beer glasses. Anyone mixing their own drinks needs tools as well as glassware, so start with the cocktail shakers for shaking and straining, and with the jiggers to get your proportions right every time instead of guessing.
