The 28.3 cl Rocks glass and the 37 cl Double Rocks are the workhorses for everything served over ice. The 17.4 cl Neat glass is deliberately small and meant to be used without ice, for whisky served straight. For cocktails without ice there are two Nick and Nora bowls, 14 and 19.8 cl, the smaller of which is the classic size. The Sour glasses of 21.7 and 21.5 cl have a wider bowl that carries the egg white foam, and for long drinks you take the 31 cl Highball or the narrower 26.5 cl Fizz.

The 65 cl mixing glass is the piece everything else revolves around. Anything made purely from spirits you stir in there with ice and then strain into a chilled bowl, which is the classic method for a dry martini. As soon as citrus or egg white joins in you shake rather than stir, and the drink then goes into one of the sour shapes; with a whiskey sour that wider bowl is exactly what holds the foam up.

This is thin-walled crystal glass and you notice it at the rim. The glasses may go in the dishwasher, but place them loose in the basket and let them knock against nothing, because breakage here nearly always starts at the top edge. The mixing glass is heavy and belongs on the bottom rack. Polish afterwards with a lint-free cloth so limescale does not show up on the thin glass.
