When pouring a pilsner, you almost always get more foam than you want. With a foam skimmer, you can remove the excess in one motion, then top up the glass to the line. The glass is left clean, with an even head, ready to be served to the guest.
This category features beer foam skimmers for use behind the bar, from lightweight transparent plastic models to stainless steel versions that can withstand daily use in the hospitality industry. They differ mainly in weight, the thickness and smoothness of the edge, and how long they remain perfectly straight under intensive use.

What is a beer skimmer for?
To sweep the surplus head off a freshly poured beer. You deliberately pour the glass slightly too full, draw the skimmer across the rim at a shallow angle and then top up to the fill line, so every glass looks the same.
Plastic or stainless steel, which is better?
Stainless steel stays straight longer and lasts for years, which counts at a tap that keeps running. Plastic is lighter and cheaper and you can see through it what you are doing, but it can warp over time if washed hot.
How many skimmers do I need?
Count on two or three per tap: one in use, one in the wash and one in reserve. At festivals or events with several taps, take more, because you cannot always rinse them between rounds.
Can a skimmer go in the glasswasher?
Stainless steel can go in without any trouble. With plastic, check the maximum temperature the manufacturer states, because water that is too hot deforms the skimmer, and a warped edge no longer skims a neat head.
