Start by choosing the size that matches your drink. The tumbler of 31 cl is the old fashioned glass of the range, low and wide enough for a large block of ice. The whisky glass of 36 cl gives a little more air, the cognac glass of 45 cl is bulbous and meant to be warmed in the hand. For long drinks there is a long drink glass of 44 cl and a gin and tonic glass of 50 cl with room for ice and garnish.

At the table the range runs from a wine glass of 23 cl to a roomier one of 30 cl, alongside a champagne flute of 21 cl, a coupe of 26 cl and a martini glass of 21 cl. If you want a complete set, the whisky set combines the 75 cl decanter with six glasses.

Faceted glass shows at its best with drinks you pour neat or over little ice. Fill the 31 cl tumbler with one large block and stir an old fashioned straight in the glass; the facets let the sugar layer and the bitters shimmer visibly through the glass.

For a negroni you use the same glass, but with a slice of orange squeezed over the rim so the oil stays on the surface. The 49 cl spritz glass is deliberately roomy: an aperol spritz wants ice right to the top, otherwise the prosecco dilutes too quickly.

At the table, fill the 21 cl champagne flute almost to the brim instead, because the smaller the air surface, the longer the bubbles last.

Luxion is lead-free crystal glass that is tempered in the kiln. That is why Timeless is dishwasher safe, which is precisely what is advised against with old-fashioned lead crystal. Do place the glasses apart in the rack, because the facets can damage each other if they knock together during the cycle.

Limescale shows up sooner on cut glass than on smooth glass, because the light gathers in the grooves. So rinse the glasses with clean water afterwards and dry them with a microfibre cloth, and the shine stays intact.
