Rémy Martin 1738 Accord Royal
The cognac between VSOP and XO: aged longer in toasted barrels, making it richer and smoother. A bottle to enjoy neat, or in an Old Fashioned that tastes of toffee and plum.

What toasted barrels do to this cognac
1738 Accord Royal is a blend of carefully selected eaux-de-vie aged in toasted oak barrels. Toasting the inside of the barrel draws more sweet, roasted notes from the wood. This gives the cognac a remarkably rich, smooth and aromatic character, with toffee, brioche and plum instead of the VSOP’s fresh apricot.
It is also aged longer: the blend includes eaux-de-vie aged up to twenty years, while the VSOP tops out at fourteen. As with all Rémy Martin cognacs, the grapes come from Grande and Petite Champagne. At 40% alcohol, it is just as strong as the VSOP, but feels rounder and fuller on the palate.
In brief
Rich, smooth and slightly toasted
Toffee & brioche
Warm notes of toffee and freshly baked brioche, with ripe dark fruit and a light toasted note from the wood.
Rounded and slightly sweet
Rich and smooth, with plum and caramel. Sweeter and fuller than the VSOP, without becoming heavy or syrupy.
Warm and smooth
A smooth, warm finish where the toasted oak and dried fruit linger for a while.
The flavor profile of 1738 Accord Royal served neat at room temperature. With an ice cube, it becomes fresher and the fruit comes through more.
How to get the most out of 1738
1738 is made to be enjoyed neat. Because it's so smooth, it also works well over an ice cube or in a simple cocktail.
Neat in a tulip glass
Pour 30 ml into a tulip-shaped cognac glass and let it stand for a few minutes. Smell first near the rim, then deeper in the glass: this is how you taste the difference between toffee and fruit.
Cognac glasses →With one ice cube
Pour 40 ml over a large, clear ice cube in a heavy tumbler. The melting water slowly opens up the cognac; after five minutes, it tastes lighter and fruitier.
Tumblers →Cognac Old Fashioned
Briefly stir 50 ml 1738, 5 ml simple syrup, and 2 dashes of Angostura with ice in a tumbler, then garnish with an orange twist. The cognac's toffee notes do the rest.

Sazerac
Cognac, sugar, and Peychaud's bitters in a glass rinsed with absinthe. Bold and aromatic.
Cognac Manhattan
Replace the whiskey with 1738 and stir with sweet vermouth and bitters. Rounder and fruitier than the original.
Hot Toddy with Cognac
Hot water, honey, lemon, and a splash of cognac. The toffee notes pair perfectly with the honey.More Rémy Martin flavors
