Dom Pérignon Rosé Vintage

The dark side of rosé: copper-colored in the glass, with spices, cocoa, and roasted fig on the nose and a smoky edge. More than ten years of aging have transformed the red fruit into something quite different.

What is Dom Pérignon Rosé Vintage?

A rosé that smells of spices

When people think of rosé, they think of strawberry and raspberry. This bottle goes against the grain. In the glass, it’s copper rather than pink, and the bubbles are so fine they’re almost unnoticeable. The nose opens with dark spices and cocoa, which quickly give way to roasted fig, apricot, and candied orange, with a smoky edge. That comes from the aging: more than ten years in the cellar, during which the fresh fruit transforms into something much darker.

On the palate, it is full and intense yet silky smooth, with fresh acidity keeping the spicy notes in check. The grapes are Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, as in every bottle from this house, and the alcohol content is 12.5%. There is no non-vintage version: the 2009 is the vintage currently being served. If you’re looking for a rosé that focuses on red fruit and flowers, Rosé 2010 is the other side of this house.

What does Dom Pérignon Rosé Vintage taste like?

Cocoa, roasted fig, and candied orange

Nose

Dark and smoky

Dark spices and cocoa up front, followed by roasted fig, apricot, and candied orange. A smoky edge surrounds it all and keeps coming back.

Palate

Full-bodied and silky smooth

Full and intense on the palate, but without sharp edges: the texture is silky smooth. Fresh acidity balances the spicy notes.

Color

Copper with tiny bubbles

Copper-colored rather than pink, with very fine bubbles that rise gently and almost imperceptibly. You can only really see them in a large glass.

How to drink it

A bottle for quiet appreciation, not a crowd

This champagne deserves a moment when people can pay attention to what’s happening in the glass: a small gathering, late in the evening, with few other aromas on the table.

Don’t serve it too cold

Keep it between 8 and 10 degrees, pouring closer to 10. Below 8 degrees, the cocoa and roasted fig fade into the background, leaving mostly acidity.

Pour generously, fill halfway

Use a large glass and pour just 10 cl. The empty space above the wine is where the spices and smoky edge gather; filling it to the brim costs you exactly that.

After the main course

Because it’s so spicy and intense, it works better once the table has settled down than as an aperitif between bites. Pour generously, set the bottle down, and let the glasses sit for a moment.

Which glass brings out the spices best?

The more space, the more you can smell. A wide bowl or a white wine glass gives the cocoa, fig and smoky edge a chance to come through; in a narrow flute, little of that remains.

Everything about Dom Pérignon →
What is the alcohol percentage of Dom Pérignon Rosé Vintage?
12.5%, the same as all bottles from this house: the Blanc Vintage, the P2, the magnum, and the Rosé 2010.
What's the difference from the Rosé 2010?
The story of its flavor. This Rosé Vintage is copper-colored and centers on dark spices, cocoa, roasted fig, and candied orange with a smoky edge. The Rosé 2010 is fuller and more floral, with red fruit, iris, and violet. If you want to smell and taste it slowly, choose this one; if you want a rosé to accompany the whole dinner, choose the 2010.
Why is it copper-colored and not pink?
Because of the long aging. This bottle spends more than ten years in the cellar, and over those years its color shifts from pink to copper, while the fresh red fruit gives way to spicy and roasted notes.
Is this rosé sweet?
No. It has sweet aromas, such as candied orange and roasted fig, but the wine itself remains dry and has fresh acidity. The sugar content in grams per liter is not listed for this bottle.
Which glass is best to use?
A generous glass: a white wine glass or a champagne glass with a wide bowl. Pour it only a third full to give the aromas room. A narrow flute keeps the bubbles longer, but that's not what matters with this bottle.
