How to make the orange punch
1

Combine the Aperol, orange juice, and lime juice in a pitcher. You can prepare this part a day ahead.

2

Put the pitcher in the fridge. Add ice at the last minute, or the punch will become watery.

3

Fill the highball glasses with ice, pour in the punch until they’re two-thirds full, and top with prosecco.

4

Put two orange slices in each glass and add a straw.

Orange without food coloring

No party color is as easy to create naturally as orange. Orange juice is the base. Freshly squeezed juice gives a much deeper color than juice from a carton. Aperol provides that red-orange glow and adds bitterness, so your orange cocktail doesn't taste like lemonade. Just look at the Aperol Spritz. Apricot and peach nectar give a softer orange color and a fuller mouthfeel. Carrot juice may sound odd, but it works. Combine it with orange and ginger for a vivid orange drink that tastes better than you'd expect. And grenadine at the bottom of a glass of orange juice creates the color gradient of the Tequila Sunrise, which is always a hit at an orange-themed party.

The right glass

An orange-themed party calls for different glassware than a cocktail evening. People stand outside, move around, and something is bound to get broken. So choose sturdy highball glasses with thick walls, from 33 to 47 cl. They hold plenty of ice and can handle a garden full of guests. If you need to set out twelve, stackable glasses are a bonus. Clear glass shows off the orange best. And with a large glass, you won't have to top it up as often.

Frequently asked questions

What glass do you use for orange cocktails?

A sturdy 33 to 47 cl highball glass. Browse our highball glasses and pitchers for the punch.

How much punch do you need for a group?

Allow for two 25 cl glasses per person for the first hour. With twelve guests, you’ll need about six liters over the course of an afternoon. That’s two to three full pitchers.

Can you make the punch ahead of time?

Yes, up to a day in advance, as long as you keep the ice and bubbles separate. Add those only when serving. Otherwise, your punch will go flat and watery within an hour.

How do you keep punch cold without watering it down?

Freeze orange juice into ice cubes and use them instead of regular ice. They cool just as well, and as they melt, your punch won’t get watered down—it’ll become richer.
