What is Glen Talloch Gold 12 Years?

What twelve years and extra malt bring

Glen Talloch Gold 12 Years is a blended Scotch whisky made by blending grain whisky with malt whiskies from the Highlands, Lowlands and Speyside. All the whisky in the blend has spent at least twelve years in oak casks. Like the standard blend, it is marketed in the Netherlands by Boomsma of Leeuwarden.

Two things set it apart from the regular Glen Talloch. The malt content is forty percent instead of thirty, and the whiskies have matured much longer: twelve years, compared with a minimum of five for the malts in the standard blend. The result is a mature, full-bodied whisky with more wood, vanilla and dried fruit, and a distinctly longer finish. The alcohol content remains the same: 40%.

Everything about Glen Talloch →
What percentage of alcohol does Glen Talloch Gold 12 Years contain?
Glen Talloch Gold 12 Years contains 40% alcohol, just like the standard blend and the 8 Years Blended Malt.
What's the difference between Glen Talloch and Gold 12 Years?
Gold 12 Years is aged for at least twelve years and contains 40% malt whisky; the standard blend has 30% malt aged for at least five years. This makes Gold richer and more mature, with more wood, vanilla and dried fruit, and a longer finish.
Is Glen Talloch Gold 12 Years a single malt?
No. It's a blended Scotch: malt whiskies from the Highlands, Lowlands and Speyside, blended with grain whisky. If you want a Glen Talloch without grain whisky, the 8 Years Blended Malt is the one to choose.
What's the best way to drink Glen Talloch Gold 12 Years?
Neat, at room temperature, in a tulip-shaped tasting glass. A few drops of water are fine. On the rocks works too, but use one large ice cube so it doesn't dilute too quickly.
Can you mix Glen Talloch Gold 12 Years?
Yes, but it would be a shame to mix it with cola. Use it in cocktails where the whisky takes center stage, such as an Old Fashioned, Rob Roy or Penicillin. The standard Glen Talloch is better suited to cola or ginger ale.
