How much champagne goes into a Louise flute?
To the rim the glass holds 18 cl, but you fill it to about two thirds. That comes to twelve centilitres per glass, so a 75 cl bottle gives you a good six glasses without the champagne turning lukewarm in the glass.
What is the difference between the clear and the mint version?
Only the colour. Shape, capacity and glass thickness are identical. The clear flute shows the colour of the wine; the mint version lays a soft green haze over it that is subtler with a light blanc de blancs than with a rosé champagne.
Can a champagne flute go in the dishwasher?
Yes. Place the glasses upright and apart in the rack, because a narrow bowl leaning against another glass breaks at the stem. Drying afterwards with a linen cloth takes the water streaks out of the bowl.
Why is the bowl of Louise ribbed?
The ribs give the carbon dioxide bubbles something to hold on to along the wall. That keeps a visible trail of bubbles running instead of the foam collapsing at once, and it also keeps the champagne sparkling a little longer in the glass.
