Let the wine decide. The 55 cl bowl for Cannonau is the widest in the series and made for firm, tannic red wine that needs air. The 45 cl for Montepulciano and Merlot is narrower and keeps the fruit together better, and the 35 cl is the everyday size that works for white wine too. For sparkling wine you choose between a slim 20 cl flute for prosecco and a roomier 27 cl one for franciacorta, which as a bottle-fermented wine needs more space to open up. The 43 cl tumbler stands alongside for water.

Fill a bowl up to its widest point, which on the 55 cl is about a quarter. Then swirl briefly with the glass on the table rather than in the air, so you do not spill and the wine still climbs the wall. Serve franciacorta cooler than champagne, but not ice cold. The prosecco flute also does justice to a bellini, and a sgroppino with lemon sorbet and vodka is exactly the finish this series seems made for.

Vinea is made of SON.hyx, the lead-free crystal glass from Luigi Bormioli in which the glass mass has been hardened further. That keeps the rim intact for longer and stops the glass turning milky after hundreds of wash cycles, as ordinary crystal does. The series is dishwasher safe. Place the bowls separately in a rack with stem holders so the slender stems do not touch.
