Choose by the drink you are making. The 33.4 cl whisky glass is a tumbler with a thick base: the size in which an Old Fashioned is stirred and in which a large block of ice fits without drowning the whisky. The 36.8 cl highball glass is tall and narrow, so a gin and tonic holds on to its fizz for longer and the ice stays up top. The 7.8 cl shot glass is roomier than a standard shot glass and can therefore also serve a small dessert or a strong aperitif. Check the quantities when ordering: the whisky glass comes in sixes, the rest in fours. Compare with the wider ranges of old fashioned glasses and highball glasses.

In a tumbler you build from the bottom up. Add the ice first, then pour the spirit and stir for twenty to thirty seconds so the drink chills and takes on just enough water. One large block melts more slowly than four small cubes and therefore dilutes less. In the highball glass it works the other way round: fill the glass to the rim with ice, add the gin and pour the tonic down the side so the fizz stays in. Then stir once at most with a bar spoon.

Show is made of Tritan crystal glass, the tempered crystal from Schott Zwiesel. In a bar setting you notice that mainly at the rim: it chips less easily when glasses meet in a crate or in the glasswasher. The heavy base also makes the glass less prone to tipping over on a wet bar. Wash at sixty degrees at most, rinse thoroughly and dry with a linen cloth, because a limescale streak shows up immediately on a straight side. Leave the glasses upside down to drain on a mat.
