Royal Leerdam Adora

Start with the number of guests, not the number of shapes. For six place settings, one set per model is enough, which is precisely why a series is more convenient than individual glasses: you can order more later without the set looking mismatched. The 38 cl is your white wine glass, the 50 cl your red wine glass. The 44 cl tumbler is listed under water glasses and is spacious enough for water with ice alongside the wine. Use the 21 cl flute for aperitifs.

On a set table, place the glasses to the upper right of the knife, in the order in which you use them: flute farthest away, then white, then red, and the water glass closest at hand. Pour wine to one-third full and water to three-quarters full. For an aperitif, a bellini works well in the flute, with the peach purée at the bottom and the prosecco poured in slowly. A mimosa is the simpler version.

Adora is made of tempered soda-lime glass, which means the rim has been heat-treated and therefore takes knocks better than untreated glass. The range is dishwasher safe on a short glassware programme. Stand the bowls apart in the basket, because stems tapping against each other are the most common cause of breakage, not the wash itself.

The brand's full range is available at Royal Leerdam, including the beer and port glasses. If you search by shape instead of brand, you’ll find Adora among the red wine glasses and the champagne flute glasses. If you want to set a complete table all at once without having to search for individual pieces, take a look at the glass sets, where multiple shapes are offered together.
