Duralex Provence

Choose the 20 cl if you mainly pour water and the glasses go in and out of the cupboard every day. The 25 cl has room for ice and is therefore usable for soft drinks and short mixed drinks. More important than the size is the material: Duralex makes Provence from tempered glass, which breaks into blunt granules rather than shards. For everyday use you keep them stacked and take one from the top. For a mojito the 25 cl is the right size if you want to keep it short: mint and lime at the bottom, pressed with a muddler against the wall rather than pounded, then crushed ice and rum. A caipirinha goes the same way, with cachaça and without mint. Then top the glass up with ice above the rim and stir once from the bottom upwards.

Tempered glass withstands temperature differences of up to about 130 degrees, so you can pour hot water into it without risk. The glasses are dishwasher safe and do not discolour. If two glasses get stuck together, hold the lower one in cold water and pour warm water into the upper one; the difference in expansion releases them.
