Eighty centiliters is substantial, and that is the point. This balloon glass is designed for serving gin and tonic the Spanish way: plenty of ice, lots of tonic, and a garnish that will not fit in a small glass.
Why bigger really works
It sounds excessive, but plenty of ice is precisely what saves a gin and tonic. A glass full of large cubes cools the drink almost immediately, and the cold ice then melts slowly; you therefore drink roughly the same ratio for twenty minutes. In a small glass with three cubes, the opposite happens. The wide opening also allows all the botanicals to be released.
