This manual lever tamper from Bar Professional presses your coffee puck with a lever instead of your wrist. The unit is made of steel and plastic and stays securely on the countertop beside your grinder. Designed for businesses that make espresso all day long.
Why use a lever tamper?
Hand tamping requires effort and produces different results from one barista to another. If you make two or three hundred espressos a day, you’ll feel that in your wrist—and see it in your cups. The lever takes over the strain and applies the same pressure to the coffee bed every time. Fill the portafilter, slide it under the press, and pull down the lever. This saves time during the morning rush and keeps your extraction times within a narrow range, even when someone who is still learning the trade is working behind the machine.
Placement and maintenance
Plan on giving it a permanent place on your countertop: the unit is heavy and should not move when you pull down the lever. Place it between the grinder and the machine so you can move through the process in one motion. Wipe the tamper head with a dry cloth after every shift and remove coffee grounds from the holder; do not put the device in the dishwasher. Pair it with a knock box within easy reach and the barista tools you use for daily cleaning.
