This KEG spacer is a plastic insert that you place between two stacked kegs. It grips the rim of the lower keg and keeps the upper one in place. Intended for cellars where kegs are stored in stacks more than one layer high.
Why use a spacer
Kegs are round, heavy, and smooth, which is a bad combination as soon as you stack them. Without a spacer, the upper keg rests on the rim of the lower one and can slide off if the stack is knocked. The spacer absorbs that movement and distributes the weight across the rim instead of at a single point. This makes stacking not only safer but also easier on your back, because you do not have to adjust a keg halfway through lifting it. Use and maintenance
Place the spacer flat on the lower keg before lifting the next one onto it, and check that it fits all the way around. Do not stack higher than you can reach without assistance, and consider the floor underneath: an uneven cellar floor makes any stack unstable, even with a spacer. The plastic requires no maintenance other than occasional rinsing to prevent beer residue from building up and becoming sticky. If you work with kegs frequently, a keg roller and a bar mat at the tap are logical additions.
